The book club’s first read will be “A Lesson Before Dying” by Ernest J. Gaines.

SHS librarian LaDonna Leibrich plans to kick off the Tidal Waves book club on Sep. 17.

Tidal Waves is an extracurricular activity with open membership to all SHS students. Members will read and discuss selected books and go on literary field trips within the community.

“It’s a great chance for students not involved in sports to be a part of an activity,” said Leibrich.

The first Tidal Waves meeting will be after school in the library on Tuesday Sep. 17. Future meetings will be determined by members at the first meeting and are typically held once a month on Tuesdays.

The book club will be a part of a national book club called “The Big Read.” The first book for this program will be “A Lesson Before Dying” by Ernest J. Gaines.

This year Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library’s YA librarian Kevin Knapp will be joining the Tidal Waves book program.

Students with any questions about the book club should visit Leibrich in the library.
