Over the summer, all thirty computers in the library were replaced with new versions. In addition, the computer lab in C204 had ten computers replaced and two added. Librarian Janet Lowman says, “[We are] looking forward to the ease of use.” The new computers should be faster, more reliable and more user friendly, Librarian La Donna Leibrich says.
“[This is our] third attempt at the process and probably the best,” says technology coordinator Ryan Schasteen. The previous two attempts to replace the computers with virtual desktops were fraught with issues. “They’re just an interface for the processor. If a computer breaks down, we can shut it off and replace it,” says Schasteen. As a result, the new computers will need less maintenance and take less of the technology department’s time.
