In 2011-2012, Sheridan High School won the most athletic titles in its history. Athletic Director Don Julian was impressed with what everyone accomplished last year, “Credit goes to the senior class with their quality leadership who wanted to succeed and win. Also, everyone was very supportive.”
Along with having many team titles, SHS had eight Coaches of the Year: Don Julian, 4A football; Kevin Rizer, East conference boy’s soccer, and 4A assistant football; Tom Racette, 4A East conference girl’s soccer; Matt Johnson, 4A assistant soccer; Wendi Ruby, 4A volleyball; Bob Faurot, 4A girl’s tennis; Mike Ibach, 4A East conference boy’s basketball; and Larry Martoglio, 4A boy’s golf. All the coaches dedicated great amounts of their time and efforts to help these Bronc and Lady Bronc teams achieve their full potential. Notably, Martoglio, due to his endless support of the athletic program, will be inducted into the Wyoming Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Sheridan won three state championships with football, volleyball, and boy’s golf. There were also three state runner-ups for girl’s tennis, boy’s soccer, and girl’s soccer. Aside from these, wrestling won third place at state, and girl’s basketball achieved state consolation champions. Apart from state titles, boy’s soccer, girl’s soccer, and boy’s basketball all won regional championships and a conference championship title.
Every Bronc and Lady Bronc who participated in a sport also had an average of a 3.0 or higher GPA. The SHS Bronc football team, the 4A football champions, thought it was a great year to be a Bronc and they hope to have another great winning season.
