Boys swimming season starts

On Nov. 26 the SHS boys swim team placed seventh in their opening season meet against the Gillette relays. The boys team has almost doubled in size from last year’s season.

While most of the new participants are also new to swimming, the increased participation is appreciated as the Broncs are one of the smallest teams in the 4A division. Although the new members may not have extensive experience,“[it’s] going to turn into a strength down the road,” says Senior Jack Syring.

Furthermore, though the team may be considered small, they are “like a brotherhood, said Syring, we all get along really well.” The boys look forward to the three months of road trips, meets and practices altogether.

“I hope to be able to help guide the younger swimmers on the team,” says Senior Luke Ostrowski.  This year’s team goals include getting a majority of the boys to qualify for state and for the team to place fourth or better in conference.

When asked why swimming, Syring said “ I like how competitive and intense it is and how the difference between first and second place can be just one millisecond.”
