Wrestlers produce first placer; meet Gillette this Thursday
The Sheridan Bronc wrestling team placed 17 out of 38 teams at the Ron Thon Memorial in Riverton, Wyo., last Friday and Saturday Feb. 1 and 2.
The Broncs got a great performance out of junior Cody Delk who took first place in the 220-pound weight class. He defeated Casey Hernandez from Worland 5-4. “He was behind at first, but surprised us all in the end by pulling off a great move and scoring in the final seconds,” said junior Roman McFarlan.
The team has really been working on their effort in practice to improve their performance in tournaments. Coach Hamrick said,”I love our kids intensity lately, and hopefully it’ll carry over to our next competition because the best thing is for the kids to see themselves improving.”
The team is pumped up about having another home meet this week. “The crowd seems to fire all of us up and we seem to perform better in front of them. Although Gillette is the best team in the state every year, we will definitely give our best effort of the year this week,” said senior Alex Smiley.
The Broncs will be participating in their second home meet of the season this Thursday, Feb. 7 against Gillette.
