Known around the school as one of the brightest and most charismatic people you could meet, junior Jacob Jahiel is most well known for his passion of music. Jahiel’s musical abilities and talents extend far beyond the expected potential of Sheridan High School’s most ambitious musicians

Jahiel has most recently been accepted to the prestigious University of Indiana’s summer music program in which participants, selected through the audition process Jahiel is most familiar with, attend the university campus for a month to learn and meet peers with the same passion and love for music. “Music has just always provided me with an escape from reality, even though playing the music is one of the most real things” Jahiel said. While most other teenagers will be enjoying their summer with numerous non-academic related activities, Jahiel will be attending the camp during his time off from Sheridan High School in June.

This is not, however, Jahiel’s first time participating in a much larger group. He has also attended many other speciality music programs throughout his career including Wyoming’s Orchestra Clinic, Wyoming All State Orchestra, Interlochen Summer Institute of Music, and has also participated in the prestigious All North West Orchestra group in Portland, Oregon. “I’ve always enjoyed participating in orchestra with him because he provides such a strong source of leadership, not just in our section, but throughout the entire orchestra” stated fellow junior and orchestra member Raien Emery. Jahiel stated that “By playing with a larger group with much more experienced players gives me an idea of just how much more there is to learn and how much is possible with performing in such a talented group.”

Jahiel intends to continue his legacy and pursuing music as a career with many possible colleges in mind, including Lawrence Conservatory, CU Boulder, and the University of Puget Sound. Jahiel is the son of Laura Sands and Adam Jahiel.
