Wyatt Avery beats his Riverton opponent at a meet in Sheridan Jan. 4

At the Shane Shatto memorial competition held in Douglas, Wyo. 27 teams attended the meet. The Sheridan Broncs had a terrific tournament as they finished second overall as a team with multiple peak performances.

Braxton Cooper took third in the 113 bracket, Tucker Goss took second in the 120 bracket, Hayden Hastings took second in the 132 bracket, Cody Delk took first in the 182 bracket, Tori Music took first in the 220 bracket, and Dane Chambers took first in the 285 bracket.

The wrestling team held a holiday tournament in a Wyoming vs Montana border challenge. Sheridan and Riverton represented Wyoming as they faced Billings Senior, Billings Skyview, and Billings West. Kelly Walsh was scheduled to attend the meet but was unable to due to bad weather conditions.

Senior Cody Delk went 2-2 in the tournament and he thought the team did its best. “It is tough to compete against the larger schools from Montana, but for our size we did fairly well. There is always room for improvement though and we plan to get better as the season goes on.”

Other exceptional performances from the team include sophomore Tucker Goss as he went 3-1, freshman Hayden Hastings as he also went 3-1, and Braxton Cooper going 2-2. The highlight of the meet was Sheridan upsetting Billings West and dominating Riverton.

Another event to look forward to this year involves Sheridan hosting the regionals tournament.

The next meet the Broncs will be Jan. 17 in Phillips, South Dakota.
