A two point victory over heavy favorite and former number one ranked Natrona County at home solidified a very solid and impressive non-conference schedule for the SHS girls’ basketball team, pushing them to a 11-1 record and the top ranking. “It was a huge win. We were definitely the underdogs. It made us a lot more confident of ourselves as a team,” said senior Alison Geary.

Also last weekend Sheridan defeated Billings Skyview, 58-45, on the road in Billings Friday night.

The Lady Broncs’ only loss of the season came to Natrona County earlier in the season, and the team proved they were the best team in the state with their revenge over the Phillies. Up by 18 at halftime, the squad kept off Natrona’s rally in a foul-heavy game. Natrona’s Stanford-bound Kaylee Johnson fouled out, as did sophomore Robbi Ryan. Good foul shooting and solid defense kept the lead for the Broncs, who scored the biggest victory of the young season in Wyoming basketball.

Overall, the team has been very optimistic about the season. “It’s going pretty good, I think we’re getting better each day. We have some pretty intense practices which is getting us better,” said Ryan. The team’s goal is a state championship, a place they came up just short of last season.

Running a full-court press with an uptempo offensive attack, the team focuses on defense and conditioning in their practices. “We’ve been focusing on defense and picking up our intensity on defense, and we definitely showed that last weekend, and hopefully we can keep that up into conference play,” said senior Molly Ligocki.
