The girls’ basketball team took second place at the 4A East regional tournament last Saturday, losing to Gillette 65-56. Despite the loss, the team will take the second seed from the East into the state tournament this weekend in Casper, and will be one of the favorites, along with Gillette, Natrona, and East to win the tournament.

Sheridan won their semifinal game against Central 60-36 to set up the game with Gillette, a solid win that added to their win total of 21 games to only three losses.

“We’re confident but focused on our doing our jobs and playing the best we can. I think we have a good chance once we get to state to win,” said sophomore Robbi Ryan, who has led the team in scoring all season and been a large contributor to all the victories. However, the team was without second leading scoring junior Taylor Townsend, who had injured her arm against Gillette in the last game of the season. She should be back for the state tournament, however, and will be a helpful addition to the team.

The Lady Broncs play Riverton Thursday at Casper College to begin their state tournament.
