Lady Broncs soccer team opens conference season

Head coach Mallory Marshall watches as her team competes against Kelly Walsh.

The girls’ soccer team started its conference schedule on the road with a dominant victory over Cheyenne South 6-0 on Friday night before losing to fourth ranked Laramie the next day 4-0.

Against South, the Broncs got off to a fast start, with senior midfielder Drew Defoe scoring two goals within the first 20 minutes of the game. Before halftime, the Broncs scored again to go up 3-0 before half.

By the final, junior Jennae Fieldgrove had scored two goals herself, and senior Marissa Johansson and sophomore Robbi Ryan also found the back of the net.

The following day the Broncs had a tougher time getting shots on goal, and their defense allowed several scores to the Laramie Plainsmen.

“In the first part of the first half we had some good opportunities and the offense was hooking up nicely, but then they started dictating play and ended up having much more chances” said senior Sarah Letempt about the game. The Lady Broncs did have 12 shots on goal, but none got past Laramie’s goalkeeper.

The Lady Broncs, who were ranked third to start the season, play Gillette Friday night on the road at 6 p.m.
