SHS track team competes at the Simplot Games
On Thursday Feb. 19, the indoor track team traveled to the thirty-seventh annual Simplot Games in Pocatello, ID. The Simplot Games is one of the most competitive indoor track meets in the country with over 2,000 competitors from 20 different states. The girls 4×400 team, which consisted of senior Gabby Edeen, sophomore Peyton Bomar, freshman Madesta Shepard, and senior Mariah Grant, placed sixth with a time of 4:10.
“We didn’t expect to even break 4:20, so it’s crazy the time we got,” Bomar said.
Other students to race in the finals were the boys 4×400 team (Brian Kjerstad, Kyle Jerney, Rion Szatkowski, and Matt Scarlett); Gabby Edeen in the 200; and Matt Scarlett in the 1600.
The SHS track team’s next big meet is state. “Our goal is to continue building on the strengths we have and find people to step up to where they’re needed most,” said head coach Art Baures.
The team travels to state in Gillette this Friday.
