Western film series comes to Sheridan

For the past four years, the Wyo theatre has hosted the Western Film Festival, a month long event held every Sunday in January. Gene Stirling of Sheridan Media selected the titles this year, all of which are classic western movies.

The series was started as a request by the Wyo’s patrons who wanted a western themed event to be held after the holidays. “Because people have nothing do on a snowy Sunday afternoon. So this was the perfect time to do it,” says Wyo box office manager Pam Overton.

The first two to show was Once Upon a Time in the West starring Henry Fonda and Tom Selleck’s Australian western Quigley Down Under. Each showing was introduced by someone in the cowboy business who has knowledge of the movie.

Next Sunday’s movie will be Monte Walsh, again starring Tom Selleck, followed by The Wild Bunch with William Holden. Each film will be shown at 2 pm at $8 a ticket for adults and $7 for students.
